Battleground Virginia: The Ad Wars
In the 2013 Virginia governor’s race, Democrat Terry McAuliffe is outspending Republican Ken Cuccinelli II on the airwaves. But Republican-affiliated groups are picking up most of the slack — especially with negative TV ads.
Campaign ads are typically bought by three groups: party-affiliated groups, issue-based groups and the candidates themselves.
