Early flowering lawn weeds
Sunny, south-sloping lawns are the first to sport early spring flowers, such as these two exotic weeds from Europe and Asia. Common chickweed and Persian speedwell thrive as cool-weather groundcovers on area lawns, where they form dense green mats. By summer, both will have withered, leaving behind a multitude of seeds, which will germinate next fall and winter to form another generation of colonists.
Both flowers are bisexual, having both male and female parts.
