In search of a federal debt deal
With three weeks left before the Obama administration says the United States will begin to default on its loans, President Obama and House Republicans remain divided over the details and scale of a plan that both parties say is a prerequisite to lifting the debt ceiling. Obama wants a broader plan, while GOP leaders say a smaller package based on a bipartisan group led by Vice President Biden is more viable.
