July 11, 2009: Ghana
Making his first visit to sub-Saharan Africa since taking office, Obama called on people of Africa to seize control of their future by building strong, democratic institutions and eliminating corruption.
April 16, 2009: Central American/Caribbean
On his first presidential visit to Mexico, Obama praised Calderón for taking on the drug cartels, whose potent arsenals and economic power are threatening the integrity of the Mexican state.
