Todd Pletcher's Derby History

Todd Pletcher has been America's most prolific stakes-winning trainer over the last decade, but his record in the Kentucky Derby his been dismal. All 24 of his starters have lost. Five times since 2000 the last-place finisher has been a Pletcher trainee. Pletcher's Derby entrants have been a surprisingly weak group considering the strength of his stable. He has never saddled a Derby favorite. His shortest-priced starter was Dunkirk at 5 to 1 last year. More than half of his Derby losers have gone off at odds of 20 to 1 or higher. This year Pletcher has entered Devil May Care, Discreetly Mine, Mission Impazible and Super Saver.
