They call them "stock" cars, but the modern era NASCAR Winston Cup race cars are a far cry from the passenger cars on the showroom floor. Strip away the decals, and from the outside the racing versions of the Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Ford Taurus and Pontiac Grand Prix might look like close relatives of the cars whipping around the Beltway.
