TERM: The College Basketball Playoffs Pick 'Em Contest ("Contest") begins at 12:00 P.M. EDT on March 17, 2003 and ends at 12:00 P.M. EDT on March 20, 2003 ("Term").
ELIGIBILITY: The Contest is open only to legal residents of the United States, including the District of Columbia, 18 years of age or older at time of entry. Entrants must have Internet access as of March 17, 2003. Employees and their immediate families, including household members, of Sponsor, and its parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, divisions, advertising and promotion agencies are not eligible.
HOW TO ENTER: NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. To enter the Contest, you must be a registered user of washingtonpost.com. You may register by visiting the washingtonpost.com website home page, clicking on "Member Services," clicking on "Become a Member" and following the prompts. THERE IS NO COST TO REGISTER. Once you are registered, enter the Contest by visiting the washingtonpost.com Contest site during the Term. Registration and entry information is subject to the washingtonpost.com privacy policy.
To play, completely fill out the brackets with your team picks, including the field that asks for the number of total points (both teams, including any and all overtimes) for the NCAAź mens' basketball National Championship, which will take place on Monday, April 7, 2003 in New Orleans.
NEITHER WASHINGTONPOST.COM NOR THE CONTEST ARE AFFILIATED, ENDORSED, SPONSORED OR APPROVED BY THE NATIONAL COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION. THE NCAAź MARK AND ANY OTHER NCAAź MARKS USED HEREIN ARE THE PROPERTY OF THE NATIONAL COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION.
Scoring: You will receive one (1) point for correctly picking each team that advances from the first round. You will receive two (2) points for correctly picking each team that advances from the second round. You will receive four (4) points for correctly picking each team that advances from the third round ("Sweet 16"). You will receive twenty-five (25) points for correctly picking each team that advances from the fourth round ("Elite 8") to the NCAAź Final Four. You will receive fifty (50) points for correctly picking each team that advances to the national semifinals, and you will receive one-hundred (100) points for correctly picking the winner of the National Championship. The eligible entrant with the highest point total will be the Grand Prize winner. The eligible entrant with the second-highest point total will be the Second Prize Winner. The eight (8) eligible entrants with the next eight (8) highest scores will be the Third Prize winners.
Tie Breaker: In the event that there is a tie for any category, the winner will be the eligible entrant who came closest to guessing the number of points scored in the National Championship game without exceeding the total. In the event that there is still a tie, the winner shall be determined by random selection between the qualified, tied entries.
LIMIT: One (1) entry per person.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: You must be the registered subscriber of the e-mail account by which the entry is made prior to March 17, 2003. Entries may not be made by any other individual or any entity, and/or originating at any other Internet website or e-mail address, including but not limited to commercial sweepstakes subscription notification and/or entering service sites. Any winner who enters by any of the methods described above will be disqualified and an alternate winner selected. Use of any device to automate entry is prohibited. Incomplete entries will not be accepted. All entries become the property of Sponsor. By participating, entrants agree to abide by these Official Rules, including all eligibility requirements. By entering this Contest, you consent to Sponsor's use of your name for promotional purposes, including online announcements, without additional compensation, except where prohibited by law. Neither Sponsor, its parent, nor its affiliates, subsidiaries, divisions, advertising and promotion agencies, or any telephone network or service providers are responsible for incorrect or inaccurate transcription of entry information; any human error, technical malfunctions, or lost/delayed data transmission; any omission, interruption, deletion, defect, or line failures of any telephone network, computer equipment, or software; inability to access any Web site or online service, any other error or malfunction, or late, lost, or misdirected entries; or any condition caused by events outside of Sponsor's control that may cause the Contest to be disrupted or corrupted. Winners may be required to complete an affidavit of eligibility, a liability release and (where legal) a publicity release, which must be returned within ten (10) days of attempted notification or an alternate winner may be selected. If a winner is not of the age of majority in his/her state of residence (i.e. states where age of majority is higher than 18), prize either will be awarded in the name of parent or legal guardian or parent, or legal guardian must ratify and sign any and all documents required of winner.
PRIZES: Grand Prize: The Grand Prize winner will receive commemorative washingtonpost.com golf ball set (consisting of golf balls, tees, golf ball markers, and a golf towel. Approximate retail value: $20.00. Second Prize: The Second Prize winner will receive a washingtonpost.com bathrobe. Approximate retail value: $20.00. Third Prize: Eight (8) Third Prize winners will each receive one (1) Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive baseball cap. Approximate retail value: $15.00. TOTAL PRIZE VALUE: $160.00. Odds of winning depend upon the number of eligible entries received during the Term. All taxes and other expenses are the sole responsibility of the winner. No prize substitution, cash substitution, or assignment or transfer of prizes is permitted, except by Sponsor for reason of unavailability in which case a prize of equal or greater value will be awarded.
DRAWING: The prize winners will be determined by Sponsor on or about April 11, 2003 as outlined above from all eligible entries received by the end of the Term. The Sponsor's decisions are final with respect to all aspects of the Contest. The winner will be notified by e-mail and/or telephone, if provided. If prize notification is returned as undeliverable, the winner will be disqualified and an alternate winner will be selected. If sufficient alternates cannot be notified prior to April 30, 2003, all unawarded prizes will be awarded by random drawing. If, in Sponsor's opinion, there is any suspected or actual evidence of electronic or non-electronic tampering with any portion of the Contest, or if technical difficulties compromise the integrity of the Contest, Sponsor reserves the right to terminate the Contest and conduct a random drawing to award the prizes using entries received during the Term. Any attempt to deliberately damage the content or operation of this Contest is unlawful and subject to legal action by Sponsor or its agents.
GENERAL: This Contest is subject to all federal, state, and local laws. Void where prohibited. Each winner agrees that Sponsor, its parent, affiliates and its agencies and employees shall not be liable for injury, loss or damage of any kind resulting from participating in this Contest or from the acceptance or use of any prize awarded. Sponsor reserves the right to verify eligibility qualifications of any winner at any time. U.S. law governs this Contest.
