TPC at Avenel Hole-by-Hole Guide
How Pros Play the Hole: The 13th offers several options for players. Some pros will gamble to reach the green in two. Any good tee shot to the top of the hill, then a fairway-wood or long-iron to the green will accomplish it. Those who shoot for the green in three shots will lay back and hit their third shot with a short iron. Any approach shot must be precise enough to avoid the creek. Most Troublesome Hazards: Creek on the left side and the woods on the right. Toughest Pin Placement: Left side, close to the creek. Fred Funk's Take: "You finally get your break for some birdies. But there's disaster waiting, too. It's a definite birdie hole, but at the same time it can get you. It kind of lulls you into wanting to go for it. You're trying to get your drive off the tee to the crest of the hill so you can get a good shot at the green. But it's not easy to get on the green, because everything feeds toward the creek. It's just hard to get it actually on the green. If you can't go for it, then lay up in the bottom so you have a full wedge in. It's sneaky, but definitely a birdie hole."
