TPC at Avenel Hole-by-Hole Guide
How Pros Play the Hole: Players will be certain to give their best efforts off this tee. The tee shot varies from relatively easy to very difficult, depending on wind conditions, as the drive must first negotiate an upslope before descending toward the green. Players will be hitting middle irons into the green under calm conditions but can run from fairway-woods to short irons depending upon the wind. The second shot must be accurate to avoid hitting the wrong tier on the green. Most Troublesome Hazards: Tiered green. Toughest Pin Placement: Left side of the green. Fred Funk's Take: "A tough par-4 because you're hitting up a hill. The fairway is like a funnel-bounces off the left and right banks feed back into the fairway. That hole plays really difficult when you're playing into the wind because you can't get your ball to go far enough over the hill, except for the longest hitters. You're stuck with a real long shot downhill into a really tough green. Wind direction is really critical on that hole. It can play short to where you're hitting wedges in. I've also hit 3-wood into that hole before."
