TPC at Avenel Hole-by-Hole Guide
How Pros Play the Hole: A long iron or a wood will be needed to reach the green, which is large with no bunkers. Since the approach is flat, a bounce shot is possible. Most Troublesome Hazards: Only trouble spot is the water hazard on the right side that will catch poorly hit shots. It also may come into play, if the hole plays against the wind. Toughest Pin Placement: Right side, from the middle to the back of the green. Fred Funk's Take: "It really depends on where they put the tee. If the tee is all the way back, it's a very, very difficult par-3. It's a huge green, but such a long shot. For some reason, I don't remember growing up in the wind in D.C., but it always seems windy when we're playing [the hole]. Even though you're hitting downhill, it's a tough green to really get it close because it's a massive green with some roll to it. It has a little run-off area to the left that's not a good place to be chipping from."
