F Greg Whittington

Oakland Mills / Senior

Little known before the season, Whittington emerged as the region's most versatile player, able to use his 6-foot-9 frame to post up smaller defenders or take taller defenders outside and make jump shots. Despite near-constant double and triple teams, he averaged 23.5 points, 11.6 rebounds, 4.4 blocks, 3 steals and 2.7 assists per game, leading the Scorpions to an undefeated regular season and Howard County championship. Scored at least 14 points in every game and had six games with at least 30 points as Oakland Mills advanced to the Maryland 2A South Region final for the second consecutive season. Shot 60.3 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range. College coaches were impressed with his unique skill set, resulting in a late-season recruiting battle. Committed to play for Georgetown.
