Thea Lafond

Kennedy / Senior

A superbly gifted performer, LaFond had a banner year, frequently shuttling between events that overlapped and were highly technical. LaFond won all eight of her events during the postseason. In addition to capturing the 55 hurdles and high jump at the Montgomery County championships, she set a meet record in the long jump at 18 feet 4 inches, bettering the mark she set in 2010 by more than a foot, and shattered the record in the triple jump with 39-5.75. Maryland does not contest the horizontal jumps at the region and state levels, but she won 3A state titles in the 55 hurdles (8.39 seconds) and the high jump (5-8). LaFond placed fifth at nationals in the high jump (5-7) and third in the triple (39-11.25). Will compete for Maryland.
