Beyer Speed Figures

The Beyer Speed Figure is a rating assigned to every race run by every horse in the United States and is incorporated in the Daily Racing Form past performances. It takes into account the time of a horse's performance and the inherent speed of the racing surface. The average winning figure for the Preakness is 109, but the performances of the entrants in this year's field fall below that benchmark. I'll Have Another won the Kentucky Derby with a 101, the second-lowest number for that event since publication of the figures began in 1991. Winning figures for the Preakness:
