At Dunbar High School, a football power rises in the shadows of New York Avenue and in the face of declining participation throughout the area. The coach brings an attitude, passes it on to his players, who win a second consecutive championship – and earn a chance at a college scholarship.
At Sandy Spring, in northeast Montgomery County, a coach injects life into a dormant soccer program, galvanizing a community and winning a title.
In Northern Virginia, where you can still find a few rolling hills amid urban sprawl, a pair of cross country runners break away from the pack and enter the national elite.
There were many great stories, but the curtain has fallen on the fall season, so now we'll bring out the stars for a final bow.
