What Does It Take to Be an All-Met?
The Washington Post's scholastic sports staff asked, and All-Mets answered:
Tasia Potasinski and Hiruni Wijayaratne

Athlete of the Year / Coach of the Year

Natalie Baird | Park View » Sr.
The three-time All-Met has never lost to an area competitor in the discus. At the Penn Relays, she hurled the disc 154 feet 8 inches to become the first high school athlete to win the competition three straight years. She also owned Virginia’s top mark in the shot (44-8). Will compete for William & Mary.
» Favorite piece of equipment: Her shoes
The discus and shot are at the core of Baird’s competition, but she is most tied to her shoes. She has owned them since her freshman year. “They’re hideous-looking, but I like them,” Baird said. “They feel like slippers.”

Rob Watson | Elizabeth Seton
A strong motivator and strategist, Watson guided a talented team comprising mostly sophomores and juniors to its second straight Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship and third in his seven-year tenure. His 4x100 relay team was the area’s fastest, in 46.3 seconds.
