Swimmer of the Year
Markus Rogan, Sr., Mount Vernon
Repeat All-Met is Virginia state and regional champion in the 200-meter individual medley and 100 backstroke, two events in which he also owns area-best times. An Austrian citizen, he is ranked No. 44 in the world in the 200 backstroke and 86th in the 400 individual medley.
Part of state championship winning 400 freestyle relay team. Qualified for U.S Swimming Senior Nationals in Seattle, and will attempt to qualify for the 2000 Olympic trials and compete for Austria.



Coach of the Year
Greg Dunston, Walter Johnson
After finishing eighth at Metros last year, he led the Bethesda school to this year's title with just two seniors on his 15-swimmer roster. Wildcats finished 4-1 this season.
Has won back-to back Montgomery County championships. In his 13th year.



First Team
Chris Bassler, Sr., Jefferson
State and district champion in the 200 and 500 freestyle. Regional champion in the 100 and 200 free. Went undefeated in dual meets, district, region and state meets.
Andy Bradley, Jr., Robinson
Undefeated in dual meets this season. Regional and district 1-meter springboard diving champion and runner-up at the state meet. Holds area's top diving score.
Kevin Furlong, Jr., Paul VI Catholic
Owns area-best time and is undefeated in the 100 breaststroke, which he won at the National Catholics, Metros and Prep School Championships. Has qualified for Junior Nationals.
Pete Garvin, Sr., Good Counsel
Undefeated in dual meets in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Holds area-best time in the 100 free. First in 100 free at Metros and first in the 50 free at the Villanova Catholic School Championships.
Chris Gibson, Soph., Georgetown Prep
Metros and Prep School champion in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Set team records in both events and in the 400 freestyle relay team. Qualified for U.S. Junior Nationals.
Adam Orton, Sr., South Lakes
State, region and district champion in the 100 butterfly, an event in which he is undefeated since his junior year. District champion and state runner-up in the 100 backstroke.
Mike Raab, Jr., Walter Johnson
Owns Montgomery County times in the 50, 100, and 500 free, 100 fly, 200 individual medley and 100 breast. Was Metros champion in the 200 individual medley and set county records in the 100 fly and 500 free.
Kevin Shortt, Sr., Stuart
State, regional and district champion in the 50 freestyle. Shares area-best time in 50 free with Oakton's Mike Sihler. Qualified for U.S. Swimming junior nationals.
Mike Sihler, Sr., Oakton
State and district champion in the 50 freestyle (in which he shares area-best time with Oakton's Shortt). State record-holder in 200 medley relay.
