Player of the Year
Nana Meriwether, Sidwell Friends
The 6-foot-1 leaper was an All-Met high jumper last spring and boasts a 10-foot, 4-inch jump touch. Also plays basketball and will have 12 varsity letters by the end of this year. Is considering volleyball offers from three Pac-10 schools, as well as Texas, Duke, North Carolina and Penn State.

Coach of the Year
Matt Poteet, Patuxent
Directed Panthers to an 18-1 record and the Maryland 3A title, the school's first team championship in any sport. Patuxent had lost in the playoffs to the eventual state champion in each of Poteet's first three seasons, but only dropped three games in five postseason matches this year. Poteet stepped down in late March, but in four years at the Lusby school, he compiled a 59-11 record.

First Team
H Marisa Gross, Forest Park, Jr.
Virginia AAA Northwestern Region player of the year led Bruins to their first state championship appearance. All-state selection finished with a team-high 296 kills.

H Erin Maldo, Thomas Johnson, Jr.
Frederick County player of the year and three-time all-Central Maryland Conference selection led Patriots with 137 kills and 38 aces.

H Christi Moot, Centreville, Sr.
Had 259 kills and 351 digs as Wildcats became first Northern Region team to win a state quarterfinal match. All-state honoree will play for William & Mary.

H Hanna Porterfield, O'Connell, Sr.
WCAC player of the year had 148 kills, 58 aces and 396 digs as Knights advanced to league final. Six-foot-2 hitter will play for James Madison.

S Junel Jeffries, Northern, Sr.
Led team in assists (576) and blocks (66), and added 116 kills and 45 aces. Three-time all-SMAC selection helped Patriots win state titles in 2000 and 2001.

S Tara Stradling, Glenelg, Jr.
Had 467 assists, 42 aces and 107 digs as Glenelg won the Maryland 2A title and finished atop The Post's rankings with the area's only undefeated record.

S Lacey White, Westfield, Sr.
Two-time All-Met sparked her teams to the state tournament in each of her four seasons. Three-time all-Northern Region selection will play for UNC Wilmington.
