Swimmer of the Year

Steve Scheren | Robinson, Sr.
Scheren successfully defended his Virginia AAA titles in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, breaking his state record in the 100 with a time of 45.59 seconds. A nine-time all-American, Scheren captained the Robinson boys' team to its third consecutive state title. Will swim for Auburn.



Coach of the Year

Jamie Grimes | Walter Johnson
In two years coaching at his alma mater, Grimes has led the Wildcats to consecutive Montgomery County boys' titles. Walter Johnson went undefeated during the regular season and won the county meet by more than 50 points. The Wildcats finished third at Metros.



First Team

Adrian Astiz | Walter Johnson, Sr.
Astiz won the 100-yard butterfly and 100 breaststroke at both the Montgomery County and Metros meets, swimming an all-American time in the butterfly and helping the Wildcats to the county title.

Nick Conrad | Sherwood, Sr.
Conrad swept the 50 freestyle at the divisional, county and Metros championships. His time of 21.52 seconds at Metros earned all-American consideration. Also won the Montgomery County 100 freestyle title.

Matt Cooper | St. Albans, Soph.
In two years, Cooper has yet to lose a diving competition. His point total of 551.70 at Metros set a meet record by more than 17 points and was nearly 125 points ahead of the second-place finisher.

Jack Curran | DeMatha, Sr.
He led the Stags to their first WMPSSDL championship with wins in the 200 and 500 freestyle. Curran also anchored the 400 freestyle relay team that set a Metros record.

Drew Finelli | Robinson, Jr.
The three-time all-American won Virginia AAA 200 and 500 freestyle titles and set a state record in the 500 (4:34.83). Also won Northern Region and Patriot District titles in those events.

Josh Hafkin | Georgetown Prep, Soph.
A two-time All-Met, Hafkin led Prep to its second straight Metros title with wins in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke, earning an all-American qualifying time in the latter.

Zach Hayden | Stonewall Jackson, Jr.
Captured Virginia AAA titles in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley with automatic all-American times, including a state record in the 100 breaststroke (57.81). Won Northwestern Region titles in those events.

Matt McLean | Potomac Falls, Jr.
McLean won the Virginia AA 200 freestyle title in a state-record 1:39.96. Earned all-American honors in the 200 and 500 freestyle. Holds three individual Dulles District records.

Daniel Mengering | Walter Johnson, Sr.
Mengering won the 200 and 500 freestyle at Metros, earning all-American times in both and setting a meet record in the 200. He anchored the Metros-winning 200 freestyle relay. Will swim for Clemson.
