Swimmer of the Year

Kate Ziegler | O'Connell, Jr.
The three-time All-Met dominated the competition in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle, setting meet records in both events at the National Catholic Championships and at Metros. Ziegler capped her season by swimming a time of 4:37.67 in the 500 at Metros, setting a new national independent schools record.



Coach of the Year

Scott Brown | South Lakes
In his 10th season at South Lakes, Brown led the Seahawks to their first Virginia AAA title after finishing second in each of the last three seasons. The Seahawks finished second at the Northern Region meet and third in the Liberty District. Brown was named the All-Met boys' swimming coach of the year in 1998-99.



First Team

Sarah Baker | Robinson, Sr.
The repeat All-Met successfully defended her Virginia AAA 200-yard freestyle title. Posted automatic all-American times in the 200 and 500 freestyle. Will swim for Penn State.

Mei Christensen | South Lakes, Jr.
Her Virginia AAA 200 individual medley title and second-place finish in the 100 backstroke helped lead South Lakes to the team championship. Swam on the Seahawks' state-champion 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

Ashley Danner | Lake Braddock, Fr.
Danner won the 100 breaststroke and finished third in the 200 individual medley at the Virginia AAA meet. Anchored the Bruins' victorious 400 freestyle relay at the Northern Region meet.

Colleen Haase | Good Counsel, Soph.
At Metros, Haase won the 100 breaststroke with an all-American time of 1:04.11 and earned all-American consideration in the 200 IM. Swam on the Metros record-setting 200 medley relay team.

Liz Kemp | Good Counsel, Jr.
The three-time All-Met won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly at Metros. She demonstrated her versatility by earning all-American times in the 50 and 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle.

Colleen Law | Whitman, Jr.
In her first season at Whitman, Law made All-Met for the third time. She set team records in the 50 and 100 freestyle and swept both events at the division and county championships. Won the 100 free at Metros.

Christine Nichols | W.T. Woodson, Sr.
Repeat All-Met won the Virginia AAA 50 and 100 freestyle titles. Her Liberty District 500 freestyle title helped the Cavaliers win the team championship. Will swim for Michigan.

Michelle Parkhurst | Marshall, Sr.
Parkhurst, who holds four school records, won the Virginia AAA and Northern Region 100 backstroke titles and placed second at those meets in the 50 freestyle. Will swim for Clemson.

Megan Waters | Good Counsel, Soph.
Waters swam all-American consideration times in the 50 and 100 freestyle at Metros. She also helped the Falcons win their ninth consecutive Metros title as a member of the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
