11 NHL Players on Czech Republic Roster

From Wire Services
Tuesday, January 13, 1998

PRAGUE, Czech Republic — Goalie Dominik Hasek of the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins forwards Jaromir Jagr and Martin Straka are among 11 NHL players selected Wednesday for the Czech Olympic team.

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Petr Svoboda, who was embroiled in a citizenship flap with the Czech Republic, is listed on the latest roster. His Philadelphia teammate Vaclav Prospal, however, will miss the tournament because of a broken leg.

Svoboda, who left his native Czechoslovakia in 1984 to join the Montreal Canadiens, had since lost his citizenship and was scrambling over the last month to regain a Czech passport to make him eligible for the Olympics.
