SAN CANDIDO, Italy — Margherita Parini of Italy overwhelmed her opponents by a whopping 4.34 seconds Saturday to win her first World Cup snowboard giant slalom of the season.

Parini edged American Rosey Fletcher by just 16 hundredths of a second in the first run, but then put in a spectacular second run to pull far ahead of any rivals and finish in a combined time of 2 minutes, 54.92 seconds.

It was Parini's third career World Cup giant slalom victory.

Fletcher rode poorly in the second run and wound up fourth with a total time of 2:59.99.
