The first signs of fall color are starting to show in Garrett County in western Maryland and in the higher elevations on the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The foliage colors at those two areas are expected to peak by mid-October.

At Maryland's Catoctin Mountain Park and Virginia's Shenandoah National Park, the foliage is expected to reach its chromatic heights on the second and third weekends of the month, weather cooperating. And in the Washington area, the best will be seen at the end of October.
