Pohick Bay Regional Park
The Indians called this land “Pohick,” the Algonquin word for the “water place.” Today, Pohick Bay is still the water place - a water-oriented park 25 miles south of the nation’s capital.
The park has a bayside setting on the historic Mason Neck peninsula in Fairfax County. Mason Neck is an ecologically fragile area that shelters a profusion of wildlife, particularly the bald eagle. The developed recreation areas are concentrated to minimize the intrusion on nature.
Directions:
To reach Pohick Bay, take I-95 south of the Beltway and exit at Lorton. Turn left on Lorton Rd., right on Armistead Rd., right on Rt. 1 and left on Gunson Rd. Continue 3 miles to golf course on left, 4 miles to main park.
Features Include:
- Outdoor swimming pool
- Miniature and disc golf
- Campground
- Dumping station
- Sailboat, jon boat and pedalboat rentals
- Boat ramp
- RV and boat storage
- Marina building
- Picnic tables
- Nature trails and bridle paths
