Downhill Discounts

With prices at some area resorts already $40 or more for a one-day lift ticket on weekends, the question arises: How can you beat the high cost of skiing? There are several ways:
Ski midweek or at night, when the rates are lower by 25 to 50 percent. Weather permitting, ski early (before Dec. 15) or late (March and April) when rates are also discounted because of usually poorer skiing conditions.
Join a club or recreation association at work or through some other organization. They can negotiate a discount on lift tickets. As a last resort, organize your own group and receive a group discount.
Ask about packages that include lessons, rentals and lift tickets.
Packages that include lodging/lift tickets can also save you money. Most resorts that rent apartments and rooms also offer discounts on tickets.
If you ski frequently at one or two area resorts, consider buying a season pass if your favorite resort offers one.
How big are the savings? If you ski more than six times you will save money. If all of your family skis, you will begin saving money on the second weekend. Some restrictions apply on dependents (must be 18 and younger, or a full-time college student 23 and younger, with a copy of college schedule required.)
