Whitewater Slalom Team Qualifications into Olympics

1) How many events are there for Olympic qualifications?
There are two qualification events where countries can earn the right to participate in the Olympic Games: September 1-3, 1995, World Championships Nottingham, Great Britain; April 19-21, 1996 International Olympic Qualifier, Ocoee River, Tennessee.

2) Is there a stipulation on who can participate in these events?
Any country may participate in the World Championships. Athletes competing in the qualifying events should be acceptable for Olympic participation according to their National Olympic Committee (NOC). Two boats per nation per event out of a possible four boats entered may qualify for the Olympic Games. Those nations who qualified the maximum of two boats for an event in the World Championships may not compete in that event at the International Olympic Qualifier. At the second qualifier, one boat per nation per event out of two possible boats entered may qualify for the Olympic Games.

3) Is this like the sprint discipline. m that the boats qualify. not the athletes?
Yes, the boats qualify for each country. The athletes will be chosen for their prospective national Olympic teams at another time.

4) How many boats can participate in the Olympic Games?
There are a total of 120 boats allowed to participate in the slalom discipline for the Games. These boats qualify as follows:

World Championships: International Olympic Qualifier:
K-1 Men
K-1 Women
C-1 Men
C-2 Men
24 boats
16 boats
16 boats
8 boats
K-1 Men
K-1 Women
C-1 Men
C-2 Men
21 boats
14 boats
14 boats
7 boats
TOTAL: 64 boats qualify for Olympics
TOTAL: 56 boats qualify for Olympics
GRAND TOTAL: 120 boats in Olympic Games for the Slalom discipline

5) What if one of the qualified boats decides not to participate in the Games?
If an Olympic Committee of any qualified country decides not to send a boat to participate in the Games, the boat with the next best result at the International Olympic Qualifier will be eligible to participate in the Games.
