Russia's Sautin Prevents Chinese Sweep
Dmitry Sautin of Russia spoiled China's potential
gold-medal sweep and finished off the U.S.'s worst Olympic performance in 84 years by winning the men's platform title Friday. American David Pichler finished sixth, while teammate Patrick Jeffrey was ninth. It marked the first time since 1912 -- not counting the boycotted 1980 games -- that the U.S. failed to win a diving gold medal and won fewer than three total medals.
As China Makes a Splash, U.S. Struggles
Fu Mingxia's victory in the 3-meter springboard brought China closer to a sweep of all four Olympic diving competitions. The United States is on the brink of making history, too. After getting at least one diving gold medal in every Olympics in which the United States participated since 1920, Americans may not get one this time. American Melisa Moses finished fourth, and Jenny Keim was ninth. Moses missed a bronze medal by about two points.
Lenzi Takes Bronze Behind Chinese Pair
After a brief lead in the finals of the men's three-meter springboard diving competition Monday, Mark Lenzi found himself in a familiar position: having to scramble for any hope for a medal. On Monday night, Lenzi, fron Stafford, Va., did just that, and captured the bronze medal, behind China's Xiong Ni, who won the gold, and Yu Zhuocheng, who won the silver medal.

Divers Getting Ready, Getting Along
The U.S. diving team says that it truly is a team heading into Atlanta. "We're getting along great," team member Pat Jeffrey said. "We're a very supportive group of each other right now," the platform finalist in the 1988 Olympics added, "We're so solid, so
much talent on this team. We're so deep."
After Depression, Lenzi Rises Again
After winning a gold medal in Barcelona in 1992, diver Mark Lenzi thought the limelight would never fade. He was wrong. After sinking into a depression that almost convinced him to sell his gold medal, Lenzi rededicated himself to his sport. Now that he's won another chance, he's seeking another gold.
O'Brien: Relationship Affected Pichler
U.S. Olympic diving coach Ron O'Brien said one of the team's top divers, David Pichler, is in the midst of a relationship that may have contributed to critical statements Pichler made against him at a recent news conference. Pichler claimed that since he stopped training under O'Brien, the coach and his family have harassed the diver. O'Brien says it is Pichler's companion that has been harassing his family.
