Denmark Wins Women's Gold in OT
Denmark rallied to force overtime, then won the women's handball gold medal in its first Olympic appearance, defeating two-time defending champion South Korea, 37-33, Saturday. The South Koreans took a six-goal lead in the first half, but the Danish team fought back to tie at the end of regulation, then blitzed South Korea in overtime.

Sport's Dilemma: Explaining the Game
Team handball is an entirely different sport than the handball most Americans are familiar with. According to U.S. team member Tom Fitzgerald, it’s a hybrid version of soccer, water polo and lacrosse — 11-man teams try to throw the ball into a guarded goal — with a bit of basketball thrown in — players must dribble the ball every few steps as they bring it down the court.

Brown's Second Try Nets Olympic Berth
Derek Brown passed up his first chance to join the U.S. team handball squad prior to his graduation from La Salle University in 1993. A few months later, while working for an insurance firm, he decided to give team handball another try. He quit his job, packed his bags and moved back to the La Salle campus in Philadelphia to train with the team. Today, Brown, who competed in track and basketball at Gonzaga High School in Washington, is one of the top scorers on USA team handball and is on the U.S. team in Atlanta.
