Tamura's 84-Match Winning Streak Ends
North Korea's Kye Sun ended the 84-match winning streak of Japan's Ryoko Tamura with a victory in the women's under 48-kilogram (106-pound) division as Olympic judo competition ended Friday. Hillary Wolf of Chicago and Clifton Sunada of Honolulu advanced to the repechage round but failed to go further. In the men's event, Tadahiro Nomura of Japan stopped Girolamo Giovinazzo of Italy to capture the under 60-kilogram (132-pound) class.
Germany, France Earn Lightweight Gold Medals
German veteran Udo Quellmalz and French newcomer Marie-Claire Restoux captured gold medals in the extra-lightweight division of Olympic judo Thursday.
Marisa Pedulla of Pittsburgh lost in the repechage final to Almudena Munoz of Spain and missed out on a chance at the bronze medal.
American men's entrant Orlando Fuentes of Miami lost in the third round.
Cuban Keeps Medal Despite Positive Test
A Cuban athlete will keep her silver medal in
judo even though she tested positive for a banned drug. In the first drug-related case reported during the Atlanta
Games, Estela Rodriguez Villaneva received only a reprimand
Wednesday for using furosemide, a diuretic. "It is not considered a doping case," International Olympic
Committee spokeswoman Michele Verdier said.

Judo Captain Hoping to Capture Gold
In only the second Olympics for women's judo competition, U.S. judo team captain Celita Schutz-Owens is looking to win the gold medal against competition from Japan, France, Cuba and other countries.
