Your Thoughts on the Redskins' Loss vs. Buffalo

Redskins Helmet Page 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9

We asked our readers to react to Washington's loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Here is a sampling of the responses.

Stubblefield is horrible! I don't know what else to say. Watching this defense is like torture. I wanted to throw my remote through the TV everytime Flutie scrambled for a first down! I'm sick of hearing the same old thing after every loss. Perhaps it'll be a good thing when we don't make the playoffs AGAIN so Danny can clean house.

Sick of the SIEVE defense

How many of us after this game are asking for Nolan to be fired? As a defensive coordinator the week before a game you should study a teams tendencies and try to stop them. Now I wouldn't have guessed Jonathan Linton would have rushed as well as he did but I do know that stopping Flutie from running all over the field would be key. We couldn't do that. Note to Norv, don't try kicking 55 yard field goals. Time in and time out this year we, the Redskin faithfu,l wait for our defense to step up. They haven't. Get some new ideas because our offense will only carry us so far. The Redskins defense is terrible. Nolan take a clue and try something new or leave. Show some life, get mad, fired up! Something!!!!!

The Skins defense is not very good and it shows against good offenses. Not very surprising given what we've seen so far this season. Is it the personel or the coaching that makes the defense so ineffective? We never get a pass rush, our linebackers are not very good. The defensive line is just overmatched repeatedly. Good bye Norv. Nice guy, fair offensive assistant, but not a head coach.

No defense at all! And does anyone else feel a huge sense of deja vu? In 1996, Skins are 7-1, go up to Buffalo and get beat, and then procede to go 2-6 and miss the play-offs. I'm one of the last people who wants that to happen, but its an awfully big coincidence.

It seems like our old friends the "Boneheaded" defense is back. Every time the Skins have a chance to put Dallas even further out of contention they blow it. Don't be suprised some defensive heads to start rolling this week.

Redskins played their typical style defense, awful. I remember the comments coming out of camp at the beginning of the year about a more aggressive, attacking style of defense. I have yet to see that. Why didn't we try to blitz? Matt Stevens was awful. Darrel Green is showing how slow and tentative he has become. I don't understand it. When you know they are going to run, why can't you load up and stop it. I've been saying this every week. Mike Nolan has got to go!

i just dont understand how a defense can be that bad also the special team certainly does not help.the offense can not do it every week the BILLS had a better game plan than we did.

I have to apologize to the fans of DC again for my horrible excuse for an NFL defense. I'm going to tell my guys to regroup, y'know, play harder, like, try not to make mental mistakes, and practice hard this week, and blah, blah, blah, Oh well you've heard it all before.

LIFELESS....REDSKINS....LIFELESS..! I CAN NOT BE SO CRITICAL WITH THE DEFENSE NOT AFTER BEING ON THE FIELD ALL GAME. INEPT OFENSIVE PLAY CALLING. NOW I'M JUST LOOKING FORWARD THE 2000-2001 SEASON HOPEFULLY NORV TURNER AND MIKE NOLAN WILL BE GONE. BEING LIFELESS COMES WITHIN THE REDSKINS ORGANIZATION. I JUST WONDER WHAT DANNY "NERD" SNYDER WILL DO AFTER COMING IN WITH AN ATTITUDE. BUT I FIGURE HE WON'T MAKE ANY CHANGES BECAUSE HE CAN'T BACKUP HIS ATTITUDE WITH GETTING RID OFF THE COACHING STAFF NOW! NORV TURNER HAS BEEN RUNNING THE REDSKINS FOR A FEW YEARS NOW I HOPE THIS IS THE LAST SEASON I'LL PUT WITH A INEPT COACHING STAFF. LIFELESS.......REDSKINS.....LIFELESS LOOSERS....!

How much longer must we watch Darrell Green get beat time after time, he needs to retire. Also, Mike Nolan should go immediatly. Norv, please make that move now.

Clean out the front office, now is the time to fire Mike Nolan if not Turner as well. Bring in Shottenheimer to finish off the season, Pettibone will return as Def. Co. Well have a shot!!

What a pitiful performance!!! It just shows that they have been overrated all year long (even offensively.) Something has to be done defensively! I know that Mike Nolan is trying his best to get the defense to play with some heart, but it's not working. That's his job! How many of you out there would keep your jobs if you continuosly performed on such a horrible level? Not many I'm sure. And by the way, all of you who think that Daniel Snyder is an authoritarian, maybe he is, but he has every right to be. He payed $800 million bucks for a subpar team. He can say whatever and do whatever he wants. If he wants to scream at Norv and the players, then he should. If I were in his position, I'd do a lot more than yell!! The players need to worry less about picking up their paychecks on Monday and worry more about what got them to the NFL: heart and effort. Right now they are a horrible team that looks like they can't hang with the elite teams. I am behind them no matter what, but something has to happen or w e will once again be crying in our beers come playoff time!!!!!

A 55 yard field goal attempt?!? How about trying to down the ball inside the 20? The momentum shifted with that misguided call. If the defense wasn't so suspect, it could have been a good call.

its about time someone figured out a way to beat us soundly. Cmon now Hogs! PULL IT TOGETHER

Another time for Washington to step forward against a decent team. Another defeat. Turner cannot find a way to get this team to win the "big" games. Washington has beaten only teams with losing records. Defense is horrid. This will be another 8-8 season with no playoffs once again under Turner's regime. Bet the house on it.

I am sick of this crap. One step forward, two steps back. In the past three weeks they have had a chance to really make themselves known in the league. They should at least be 6-2. They should have never lost to the Bills. If I was Nolan, I would be shaking in my boots. You know what the most pathetic things is? They are tied for first with the lowly Giants. I am getting tired of this. Get it together!!!!!!!

The Redskins need help fast or else they'll be watching the playoffs like they have the past years... from their living room!

Brian Arner

What is there to say? Motivation was lacking, the defense couldn't stop a toddler from crawling from one end zone to another, the offense went into a funk by going away from the misdirection that worked successfully in the first drive, and the coaching staff had not a clue how to do anything but contemplate when they will all be fired. If Nolan isn't fired after today, then Snyder is a bag of hot air who is the new blowhard of the NFL. The defense played so uninspired today that you'd thought that just by showing up with their "improved" statistics, the Bills would cower in fear! Wrong! Granted the cockroach Flutie scrambled around as if he was running from a RAID can, but we expected this! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to at least keep him from getting a first down (which he did repeatedly after being chased 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage.) It is called "hustle"! The only hustling going on was the jive that the Redskins have been spouting the last couple of weeks. Oh, yeah, these Redskins are improved over last year! The occasionally throw in a competitive game and a few games where they beat the bottom dwellers they should beat! But one thing remains constant....horrid defense and a head coach who values loyalty over success. Nice qualities for a cub scout leader, but the kiss of death for a professional football team!

Could someone please tell me what the Bill's 3rd down conversion ratio was on Sunday? Danny, please do something now before we miss the playoffs AGAIN! I can't take it anymore! AAAHHHH!

Replace the Defensive Corrordinator, this may be considered a bad move in mid season, but lets face it, the Redskins Defense can do no worse!

Trent K. Prue
Washington D.C.

The defense needs a new coach. "What we do don't work!" The defensive coaches seem to have no clue on how to make adjustments during a game or at halftime. Flutie had an eternity to find open receivers and picked apart our soft zones. I would keep on sending an additonal player each time until we finally pressured the QB. Bring back Richie Pettibone for the sake of the defense. We have enough talent but not the coaching. The offense went into a "shell" just like the dallas game. Brad did not even test the corners deep until it was a blowout. This also hurts our entire games since the defense does not respect the run. When things were going good for the offense we we're pushing the ball deep and even when the receiver does not make the play many good things still happen. 1) It opens the running game. 2) We pickup interference calls 3) The defense give more of a cushion opening the underneath passes. I've never seen so many 0 to 5 yard passes in my life as i've seen in this loss and the dallas loss.

Offense couldn't move the ball, Defense couldn't stop their offense, Special teams were terrible, and the coaching staff was horrible. Unbelieveable...

Mr. Snyder, please fire Mike Nolan. If you have no other candidate for the job, my grandmother is looking for work. She could do no worse.

Rob Schell

Like I said two weeks ago, someone has to lose their jobs after this one. We are now 1-2 for the past three weeks. Forget about the 5-3. We are in a slide. Philly next week. After they got busted by Carolina, guess who they will be looking for? Probably will be their best offensive game of the year. Remember when Joe G. would make the adjustments at half-time? What does Norv say to these guys in the locker room? Lose one for the Synder? The whole defense has to be redone from top to bottom. Why not a 3-4 defense? Worked for Buffalo. Oh, that's right, we don't have any good linebackers. Cut Dana, retire Green, start Boutte, sit Champ, draft a L. Taylor look-alike in the draft, sit Jones, sit Wilkensen. We lack speed from top to bottom on defense. Everyone is faster, and can tackle. Oh yeah, the entire coaching staff has to go, top to bottom. This is not a play-off team. Let's start looking forward to next year. This year is done, again. Draft a linebacker, a wide receiver (notice we only have two), and a cornerback. And what ever happened to Stephen Alexander???? Why aren't we throwing to him?? And why is Mitchell in there instead of Centers?? What is going on here???

Phil N.

pathetic. the only good thing about this loss (and others to teams with winning records) is that next year: no more excuses, no more Norv, no more Nolan.

Daniel Snyder deserves better for $800M. The Skins defense stinks!

Kevin Leopard

This team possesses alot of talent, but for some reason it is not playing with a killer instinct on defense. I know Flutie is good, but to have him dance around the whole defense and make them look like complete incompetents is very embarrassing. I've been a Redskin fan since the years prior to Lombardi. When the Redskins have had a good team, the defense played a larger role in the team's success. For some reason, the 1999 Redskins seem to think that all they have to do is out score their opponents and that no one can stop them. We've seen now that a good defense has the potential to shut down this so call 'high powered offense'. One day someone at Redskin Park will wake with an attitude to kill and destroy. Their flag football approach to playing defense will only lead to another 9-7 season. My prediction, Norv Turner and Mike Nolan should prepare their resumes for the 2000 season.

Brandon Richardson
Woodbridge, VA

Man o man did I see this coming, I just knew Flutie would have a field day against the worst defense in the league. The Redskins D makes it so hard on us true skins fans. Champ is the only player that's really impressed me, and as talented as he is he can't play every position. I honestly think the Browns could come in here and put up 50 points on this D. It looks like we are definately going to have to use one of our 3 first round picks on a linebacker, possibly LaVar Arrington. The Bills beat the skins the only way you can, by keeping the offense off the field. I'm already counting the days untill the draft. Here's hoping the Skins can somehow get Peter Warrick and Lavar Arrington in a skins uniform next year.(Don't forget about the picks, as of right now we've got the #1 pick in the draft via New Orleans)

Dear Mr. Snyder, How much more must we take. Norv and Mike need to go!!! This team was not ready to play. The defense can't stop anybody. It's time for someone who can keep this team focused. Norv is too chummy with the players. He does not have their respect.

Bill

Consistently inconsistent....the Skins are a sheep in wolf's clothing. 1-10 against teams with winning records, and the "1" came agains the Giants in a bizarre blowout. The Skins are simply not ready for prime time.

Philip Crooker
Richmond, VA

Every single week we see the same old performance by the defense. It is not Norv Turner's fault that the team is losing. It is the defense. Defense wins games. You look at the top elite teams in the NFL, all of them have great defenses. Mike Nolan needs to go, some personal on the defense needs to go. Why can't the Redskins defensive coaches watch film of the Dolphins, Jaguars, Titans on defense and copy them! It's sad to see this team lose due to the ineffectiveness of the defense. Won2K
