Your Thoughts on the Redskins' Loss vs. Buffalo

Redskins Helmet Page 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9

We asked our readers to react to Washington's loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Here is a sampling of the responses.

I can no longer watch the Redskin's game on Sunday...our defense is so BAD that they are beyond description. As a life long Skin's fan, I can assure you that Joe Gibbs would NEVER allow his defense to play with so little passion or so little skill...can you say "wrap up and tackle"???? I wonder, is it truly a lack of talent on the field or lack of talent on the coaching staff. Please...no more talk about the playoffs...we couldn't beat a top twenty college team right now!! Are the glory days of the Skins gone forever??? Please Mr. Snyder, no more temper tanrums, just give us some coaches who understand that the only way to get to the Super Bowl is with a defense that plays with heart and soul.

Lucy
Richmond

Clearly the Redskins will have to create an offense that can score as many points as possible. I felt sure the defense would come around, but I do not see that happening, whatever the reason. This team is still the best since Joe Gibbs left, and I am thankful for that.

sad, sad, sad ..no emotion ..their just there to pick up a check it seems .....hey we'er doin better than last year ,lets not kill ourselves......they must be saying ...and god if someone else says we have tons of talent on our defense, wow .....i hate to say it but hall of fame bound #28 is about over, he tackles guys like he got eggs in his pockets ,he does'nt want broken ....lame, uninspired ,sad ............

Daniel Snyder has succeeded in every business enterprise he has ever undertaken. However, Mr. Snyder needs to take a much more hands-on approach if the Redskins are to succeed. A coach has much more influence over a team's success than an owner could ever hope to have. Mr. Snyder should just end the suspense, declare himself coach, and take the 'Skins to the Super Bowl. When this happens, you heard it here first.

The defense is atrocious. We need to hire a new defensive coordinator after the season in order to have any hope for next season. It might be unwise to change defensive coordinator now, however, since the season is already half over.

I guess Mr. Turner hasn't had enough time to rebuild the defense in six years. It's funny how old Redskins that Mr. Turner didn't want are doing so well elsewhere(Ferrotte, Wycheck, Owens, Brown, Schlereth, etc.).

The defense is pathetic. There is no attack whatsoever. It's time to stop sitting back in a zone and start playing man to man bump and run. Zone defenses work great in basketball, but there is no place for it in the NFL.

Time to rebuild the DEFENSE, fire Nolan.

we need a new coaches in all three phases its just that simple. Winners win and loses lose. This team will always be mediocre with current coaching. I love the Skins but I'm frustrated!

I'm getting off this roller coaster ride. Actually, maybe I'll wait until after we blow out the Eagles next week. I forgot that we're not playing a team with a winning record again for a couple of weeks.

As a life long fan, I can't remember when I've been this disgusted. Snyder needs to clean house this off season for this team to do ANYTHING!

THE DEFENSE STINKS.ITS TIME FOR NOLAN TO GO.DAN SNYDER SHOULD START FINING HIS EMPLOYEES ,PLAYERS MISSING TACKLES ,GETTING BEAT & PLAYING BELOW STANDARD.BRETT FAVRE OFFERED TO RETURN HIS PAYCHECK FOR A BAD PERFORMANCE LAST WEEK. THE WHOLE DEFESE SHOULD DO THE SAME FOR THERE LOUSY PERFORMANCE THIS WEEK.THIS TEAM NEEDS THERAPY.THEY ARE PHISICALLY TALENTED YET THEY CANT PERFORM TO THERE ABILITIES.WHY?????LOYAL BUT FRUSTRATED.THIS SEASON IS LIKE BEING ON A ROLLER COASTER RIDE UP& DOWN.BEAT LOSUY TEAMS LOSE TO ALL THE GOOD TEAMS & LOSE UGLY.

Once again we play a good team and flop. The #1 offense is good against weak opponents but against good teams its just alright. This defense is just a joke. Lets face it these guys are playing on reputation. They on paper should be good but that phrase has worn out its welcome. Wilkinson and Stubblefield tandem is laughable. Teams just run right through our 11 million a year tackles and owner Snyder is not supposed to be angry. He has every reason to be mad spending money on guys who aren"t producing. Fans I believe Mr. Snyder will clean house of bad coaches and even worse players at seasons end. I"ve been a fan for 18 years and these teams of the last few years have been a pain to watch. I understand rebuilding but eventually you need results or you get new builders. Mr.Cerrato use those picks wisely. The offensive talent is in place and in todays NFL a top 15 defense can get you a Super Bowl. Lets stay behind the team and build on any positives.

Did anybody tell the defensive team that there was a game today? They might as well have given the Bills a 34 point spot. Very poor defense. I think that if the defense played their game, the offense would have played up to their potential. Dan Snyder says that everyone is being held accountable; hope he sticks to it.

As fans we are ultimately in control of the decisions of the team. I say that EVERYONE burn their season tickets, refuse to enter the Stadium. Refuse to buy one bit of Redskins merchandise. Refuse to buy one hot dog from the Stadium concession stands until Daniel Snyder does something about this. How long will we hold up our end of the bargain by buying season tickets and Redskins gear and the organization fail on there end by putting an inferior product on the field. The Redskins have one of the highest ticket prices in the NFL it is about time we get a return on our investment and SOMEONE is held accountable for this sham of a football team.

The offense had an overdue down day but give Buffalo some credit for that. If the defense doesn't step up...the offense will have to score another 259 points in the second half and maybe go 5-3 in the second half in order to give the team a shot at a playoff spot.

Buffalo gave the Redskins a clinic on how to play defense. Does anybody think that Nolan paid attention? Get rid of the bum. Norv, what happened to the offense? We didn't get a first down in the second half until there was 9 minutes to go in the game. Buffalo outscored us 28 to 3 in the second and third quarters. And what was Matt Turks excuse this time, was it a hang nail or a headache? The "Danny" should demand his paycheck back. The Bills gave the Skins an old fashioned butt whippping. Once again, we can't stay on the field with a team that has a winning record. PLAYOFFS, SMAYOFFS!!

Doesn't matter WHO the coach is people. The whole front 7 got BLOWN OFF THE BALL!! Did it matter what the scheme was? They can't Play. Period. They will get Nolan fired though.

The Redskins defense may be the worst in NFL history! How else can you explain a defense that can't stop the run when they know it's coming, it's pathetic. Also what type of scheme are they running, it looks to me like they line too many guys up on the line of scrimmage and there's no one there to fill the holes when the runner gets through, result = big gain. Why don't they line the backers up further and let them react and fill holes. They're suppose to be athletic so let them make plays! Someone please explain this defense to me.

Next 4 weeks is do or die. Defense better shape up quick. On the bright side, special teams finally had a decent game. Unfortunately, this team has yet to do well in all aspects of the game in the same game. Rooting for the Vikes tomorrow.

Redskins just can't stop anybody. The Virginia Tech Hokies have much better defense than the Redskins. If the offense plays below the average, then the Redskins have trouble to win the ball game.

Roy

Same old, Same old. Haven't had a defense since Turner got here. What needs to happen is Mike Nolan getting fired. Then maybe some things will get done. Until then. Look for a 500 team at best. They are just not that good. Sorry

if the skins can go 4-4 the rest of the way they will be lucky!

That loss to a quality NFL team with a good offense just goes to show that you have to take the Redskins defensive front seven and their defensive coordinator for what they are...genuine SISSIES!!! Norv, cut Dana Stubblefield, Greg Jones, Matt Stevens and Mike Nolan, and get a real defensive tackle, outside linebacker, safety, and defensive coordinator. Those people are gonna ultimately cost you your job!

Brad Macke

All is not lost my fellow Redskin's fans....Daniel Snyder is going to signup an entire Girl Scout troop to play defense. Imagine the problems offenses will have trying to wade through all the cookie boxes....

No team can pretend to be a contender with a defense as shaky as ours. They're eating us alive with short passes across the middle. Our linebackers are simply overmatched or outmanuvered on most passing plays and many running plays. Either they get better, or we die.

john burbules

This defense again showed why they are the worst in the league by allowing the Bills to run for over 200 yds and Flutie to work his "magic". Something needs to change on defense if this team expects to make a run in the postseason. Although all the units on this team should shoulder their blame, especially the defense, for this loss I think Matt Turk is being made into a scapegoat. He has been one of the few bright spots on this team the past couple of years.

Daniel Duran
Topeka, Kansas

Two disgusting similarities from the second Dallas game and the Buffalo game. The Redskins are quitters. It is not bad enough that the defense is too undisciplined to play consistent defense. Without the offense controlling the ball, the defense will make any game a laugher within a single half. Ole Norv needs to quit being so cute on offense as well. We have a strong line and a great tailback. The best defense for this team is having the offense control the ball. Forty-one minutes for Buffalo on Sunday; we are lucky they didn't score 100.

Michael Andre
Denver, Colorado

The defense is still horrible, it seems everyone has a career game vs. this defense. Lets not kid ourselves about the Chicago game, they still gave up the yards and were lucky the Bears self-destructed. This defense can't stop anyone even on 3rd and 20, it is absolutely pathetic and nauseating to watch. I guess Doug Petersen and the rest of the Eagles struggling offense are happy Washington is coming to town next week.

Another opportunity blown to prove that we can play with the best. I'm tired oh hearing of all the talk that we must see the positives. How many more times do we have to hear that after an embarrassing loss. Something has do be done. Nolan and his no blitzing philosophy must go. Does he think by not putting pressure on Flutie that we would really win...Get real, we showed what blitzing can do---a lopsided win vs. Chicago. Nolan, please quit!!!

As an avid and longstanding 'Skins fan, I have to say that I'm sick and tired of watching Mike Nolan's defensive scheme (sic?). It would be too easy to blame the players. Given the four first round picks on the defensive line, the defense cannot be this bad off their own eforts on the field. I suggest that the problem must lie off the field. Firing Coach Nolan may not be a solution, but it would be a start in a different direction. Without a change now, there will undoubtedly be radical changes in the near term, but why do we have to sustain the pain in the interim?

OK. I think we've seen enough. It's obvious that Norv & his staff can't get the job done when it counts. Mr. Snyder should cut his loses and make the coaching move NOW. ITS NOT GOING TO GET ANY BETTER. We've seen this kind of thing for the past six years. Norv Turner is a failure in Washington. GET RID OF HIM.

Mark C.
Everett, WA

Buffalo did whatsoever they wanted on both sides of the ball all game long. If you're a Redskin fan your in trouble. This isn't going to change until we find the right head coach. Norv's a nice guy, a good person but he can't put a winning game plan together. He doesn't use his players correctly. There is no spirit on the sidelines. Remember Matt Millen, how animated he was. Our team has no such fire. Nobody smacks anyone on the other side; God forbid! We've got the talent, we're not using it the right way. Like I said, we are in trouble.

Mitch Mandelkorn
Virginia Beach, Virginia

Is it me or does it look like the skins are playing prevent defense on every down? Our defense is way too soft! I may not be a defensive coordinater but I know that the skins need to aggressively blitz more often. I think all the fans agree, Mike Nolan is the only one who might not. He might say that when you blitz you run the risk of getting burned. Well, I got news for you Mr. Nolan. We are getting burned every down anyways so why not blitz. What do we have to lose. We already have the worst defense in the league. If we want the Redskins to ever return to the glory days we need to do 2 simple things. #1 Fire Mike Nolan. #2 Make Norv the Offensive coordinater, not the coach.

It is a shame that a talent laden team like the Redskins defensive unit is held in check week in and week out, and the saddest part is that it is not as much the opposing team as it is the defensive coordinator and his shaky passive defensive schemes. When is he going to take the handcuffs off these players and let them play aggressive defense. The skins could be one of the most dominating defenses in the league if Nolan would let them play aggressive. Oh well, we might as well as get ready for another none playoff year. Oh yes, one more thing; I am sick and tired of hearing "the things we do works". The only place I see it happening is in Norv Turner's mind. It's shame that this team isn't 8 and 0 or at least 7 and 1. The primary reason they are not is the coaching staff (head coach, defensive coordinator, and special teams coach).
