Your Thoughts on the Redskins' Loss vs. Buffalo

Redskins Helmet Page 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9

We asked our readers to react to Washington's loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Here is a sampling of the responses.

Hey Mr. Turk, when the door hits you where the sun don't shine, make sure Nolan, Turner, and McDaniel are all in front of you.

Defence wins chapionships - So don't expect us to be there when it counts - The defence keeps putting too much pressure on the offence and were found out this week !! Sorry Nolan it is time to bow out before it is too late!

Every week we hear the same thing, "We have to get better on defense". WHEN!! The defense is has bad has I have ever seen a defense!! Can't stop the run or the pass. If ever a quarterback and/or an offense whats to rejuvenate itself, just but the Redskins on its schedule!!! It HAS to be coaching!!!!! Nolan is NOT a very inovative type coach. NO creativity at all!!! If the Skins want to be competitive, they HAVE TO HAVE A BETTER DEFENSIVE COACH!!!!!!!!

I'll sum up the game in as little words as possible, ABSOLUTLY NO DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

This club can't beat any boys club team. Those 2 cherubs in the middle of the defensive should be ashamed to take their weekly pay. The defensive coordinator & the special teams coach should be hung out on the nearest wash line. Turning the ball over early in the game by the coach is an unpardonable sin & Mr. Snyder should close his check book. Enough is enough & they should be run out of town.

The Redskins are still the best of the worst. Precisely where they have been tor two or three years. The Skins can beat a weak team, even run the score up on that caliber opponent. However, against a talented team, a team that can be expected to have a winning season, the Redskins just do not measure up.

Hey this has a silver lining. We are that much closer to getting rid of Norv Turner. He's not a head coach!

Same old story, how may times is this team going to do the same thing. Good teams make the redskins look bad. they have no fire, no desire, they just go through the motions when they are playing poor. The coach should show the team the Dallas tape when they were 21 points down and came back to win, they never quit and they won the game. The redskins quit and have the same excuse every time.

Blitz corners, safeties, linebackers, be creative and aggressive. Run blitz more, fill the holes. Sure, its risky but it beats sitting back and getting your lunch taken away. Our DBs don't have a chance otherwise, they're being hung out to dry. Brad is still too nervous under pressure during crunch time; he needs to trust the offensive line, they're doing a good job.

I said it before to all that has listened. The Norv Turner regime has never ever produced a dominate team that can "compete" in this league. The Bills game shouldn't leave everyone shocked because it was a normal event. The Redskins are way overpaid especially on defense.Dan,please use those draft picks on some hungry college studs. Get rid of the "stub".I would love to see the Redskins adopt a team policy that resembles a firm belief in "football is played on the front line attitude, football is won in the 4th quarter by beating your opponents into submission. I guess Norv is still trying to figure out some kind of misdirection play that is sure to fail on 3rd down, and cost the team the services of its most valued commodity, a former pro bowl offensive lineman. If you contain the control of the line on both sides you win. Norv call Mr. jimmy ala former boss, and he say I might have an ofensive coaching job available.

Keith Berry

I really hate to think what will be coming in the offseason - Mike Nolan looking for a new job. Let's face the facts, though. We blamed Norv for the offense's woes in the past four years; however, when we got him players that could perform and perform consistently, his offensive scheme has the potential to be the highest scoring in Redskins history. Nolan needed some players to set up a first-rate defense. He got them. (How many first round picks are there on the starting defense?? Stubblefield, Wilkinson, Green, Bailey...) So, you have to assume that it's something else - maybe the coaching? As for special teams: I don't know why the Skins let Pete Rodriguez go to Seattle, but LeCharls needs to be shown the door.

Ultimately the Coach is the one who is responsible to have his players motivated to play the game, and in shape mentally & physically as well. Obviously, Norv Turner, does not possess the capability to do this. When the Redskins went to Dallas they were FLAT, at Halftime there are no adjustments made of any significants, Norv is a good Offensive Coordinator, no more than that. The Defense, the Redskins, have proven they can do less with more talent than any other team in the NFL. Hire the Head Coach from Kansas State to come here and be the new Redskins Head Coach, look what he did to lowly K-State amongst the power houses he was surrounded by (Nebr. Texas, Missouri) and with little or no budget, now that's a Coach. n

"Mike is really a heck of a competitor. He's been around coaching a long time. I think he's done a great job." - Norv Turner, as quoted in the Washington Post on November 6, 1999..... Does this speak volumes about the future of the Redskins season or what?

Dave

They are never ready for a big game.It comes down to one thing coaching its time to make some changes.

THE REDSKINS STILL HAVE A SHOT THE PLAYOFFS, BUT WITH NO DEFENSE OR SPCECIAL TEAMS, THEY WONT GET PAST THE FIRST ROUND. THE ENTIRE COACHING STAFF SHOULD GO AND MR SNYDER SHOULD START AFRESH. PLAYERS WHO CANNOT WIN BIG GAMES ARE NOT BEING MOTIVATED AND THAT IS COACHING. BY THE WAY, DID THE LINEBACKERS SUIT UP FOR THE GAME OR IF THEY DID, DID THEY THINK THEY WERE IN A FLAG FOOTBALL GAME?

PATRICK
BUFFALO

OUT WITH NOLAN, HE HAS TO GO. ASK OFFENSIVE PLAYERS AROUND THE LEAGUE ABOUT HOW SKILLED INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS IN THE REDSKINS ARE AND YOU'LL BE SHOCKED. IT WOULD NOT BE AN OVER STATMENT TO SAY THAT THIS DEFENSE MAY DO BETTER WITHOUT A COORDINATOR

Mike
Alexandria,Va

I believe that our defensive woes are a combination of the players and coaching. Since we cannot fire the entire defensive line, Mike Nolan and his so-called assistant defensive coaches should be fired.

Barry Kennick

Hopefully Redskins ownership is looking at possibilities for a new coaching staff. Identify a new coaching staff and make a decision on when the present group can be strapped to a rail and hustled out of town. Norv, Mike, LeCharles, guys you are just not working out.

James
Washington, D.C.

We should refer to the Redskins defense as the "Valet Defense". As long as Nolan is on the coaching staff, the defense's only purpose is going to be to escort safely opposing defenses to the end zone. Am I nuts? I've watched ever game since 1971. I drive from NJ to use my season tickets. Has anybody noticed how out of position the defensive players are every play? We have 5 number 1 picks, a hall-of-famer, a defensive rookie of the year, on the field and this is all Nolan can do with them - make them one of the worst defenses of the decade? Fire this guy now, anybody else is better.

Mark Vigneri
Ridgewood, New Jersey

Dana Stubblefield, Dan Wilkinson, Marco Coleman and Kenard Lang are all first round draft choices and we can't stop anyone at all? Can you spell rich and soft? Can you spell "no heart"? What in the world is going on here? What ever happened to Dave Butz and Daryl Grant plugging the middle? They did just that, and we get nothing from our DL. This is crazy and as far as I can see, we are the worst defense in the league and there is no reason for it. Oh, I do recall Mike Nolan having a good defense in NY before he came here to coach this bunch. Are we still going to blame Mike? Bill Arnsbarger is here now and we have seen no improvement; that's right, NONE!!! So you tell me who is to blame?

Saved (don't trade) your three first rounds draft picks and draft three DEFENSIVE players in the first round. To make room under the cap, trade or dump anyone on that high price D- Line. And finally prior to the draft hire someone from Tampa's defensive staff and fire Noland.

I was very dissapointed in the performance yesterday. The entire team played poorly. We must mend our ways. We have beaten only one team with a winning record. That's not good at all.

Michael A. Jamison

To Dan Snyder: for the bargain basement price of $70,000 a year, I will be your Defense Coordinator and I promise to do a poorly a job as Nolan. I can't do any worse. Save that money to repay the debt for buying this team. To Matt Turk and Nolan: Better start updating that resume.

Disgruntled Fan

I have always had a glimmer of hope that the defense would get untracked and play well. Now that is's halfway through the season, it's official, they stink. I have no hope of our defense being anything other than an embarrassment. The offense should change it's style and do more ball control to eat as much clock as possible. Keep those idiots on defense off the field. The only thing they can do is give us a better chance to lose.

John
Herndon

I continue to read about the "talent" that exists defensively yet I do not see any "team talent" displayed consistently on Sunday. Watching yesterday's game by the third quarter most of our guys were on the bench looking as if the game was over all ready. This is not a sign of a competitor rather a pessimist. Can it be coaching? Do our guys on defense not believe in themselves at all? Something has to give.

Gene Clyde
Rochester, NY

Another loss to a quality team, this team has NO HEART and DISCIPLINE, this team needs a KICK somewhere cause I feel the Bills were LAUGHING at us, not because of the plays and touchdowns, but the way the DEFENSE of the Redskins were playing with NO HEART. The next 4 !! games are against the division, I am VERY WORRIED about them, VERY WORRIED.

Rob Kallenbrun

The worst performance of the game came at the end of the first half. It wasn't by the defense, it was by Turner. With the Bills in scoring position (I believe inside the 20) and 2 minutes left, the Redskins let the clock run, never using a timeout. As a result, the Bills scored and the Skins had almost no time to move the ball at the end of the half. They could have had over a minute. Did Turner think the Bills would just forget about the clock and let it expire before they could score? It was plain STUPID. You've got to save time for the offense. They took 3 timeouts into the lockerroom with them at the half. They could have recaptured some momentum and at least gotten a field goal before having to kickoff to start the second half. The 55 yard fg attempt was almost as stupid. Before Turner blames the players for this one, he'd better take a look at his performance.

Its simple math!! Norv Turner + Mike Nolan = NO PLAYOFFS Unfortunately thats the redskins legacy. Hopefully this tragedy can be rectified by next season!! Good Luck Skins!! see ya next year
