Coach Steve Spurrier
Opening statement
It came down to a game with two running backs getting into the end zone, one fumbled and one didn't fumble. They both got knocked out. It ended being two big plays in the game, and we were on the bad end of both of them. As I told our guys, a lot of guys played their hearts out today. They really played with a lot of effort and a lot of courage, but it didn't work out for us.

Certainly, some guys didn't play all that well, but overall we had pretty good team effort. The offense finally got a little something going there in the second half, but we were really stopped the first half, just couldn't get anything going.

It was a game we had a chance to win, but give Carolina credit. They have seemed to come from behind and win about every time that they get in that position. They did it again, made the fourth and one and went down and scored. Give them credit. They're a good team.

Q: Did you think Stephen Davis got into the end zone for the winning touchdown?
A: The last I saw, the ball had not crossed. They stopped it right there. I don't know. When it is that close, the refs usually don't change it. It's whatever they call on the field. That's the way it happened.

Q: Do you feel the wrong call was made?
A: No. There's nothing we can do about that. Hopefully, we wish Rock had held onto the ball going in there on the first drive. Obviously, that was a seven-point play. You can only be concerned with what you have control over. We needed to hang onto the ball a little bit better in those situations.

Q: Did you purposely not give Cartwright carries after the fumble?<br> A: He didn't get too many. I think he was in there some later. Seemed like Trung was in there a lot. Then, of course that was a drive stopper when we had that little wide pitch he didn't handle. The guys played with a lot of effort. So that's all you can ask.

Q: What happened on fourth and one when Stephen Davis caught the pass?
A: Well, I think it was man coverage. One of our linebackers, he faked to him, and I guess he lost him somewhere in the play action. That's what happened.

Q: What are your thoughts about Stephen Davis's performance?
A: What do you want me to say? I haven't looked at the stats. Stephen is having a wonderful year. We all know that. I don't know if he had his best game today or so-so or what. That's not for me to judge. He's an excellent back. We know that. He's a big factor in Carolina being 8-2.

Q: Why was Patrick Ramsey struggling early?
A: Just a lot of pressure. The wind picked up. At the start of the game, it seemed like the wind really kicked in. Probably the windiest game we had early on, but then it died down a bit. And we had the wind in the fourth quarter. That's what made us feel pretty good when John Hall kicked it into the end zone once, but then his other one got close to the goal line, but they drove it about 70 yards and scored somehow.

Q: What are your thoughts about being 4-6?
A: We have got to get ready for the Miami Dolphins right now. That's all we can worry about. Whatever our record is, it is. Can't change it. We'll try to win one next week. The guys came down here and played with a lot of effort, I thought. We didn't play extremely well at times, especially on offense early, but we had a chance to win.

Patrick Ramsey
Q: Can you talk about the defense getting four turnovers and you guys still losing?
A: You're right. They did a good job. They did a great job defensively, giving us plenty of opportunities to win the game, and we didn't capitalize on them. We had plenty of opportunities to win the game, and we didn't.

Q: What started to click in the second half?
A: We just started getting guys open, had some time to throw the ball downfield, and guys were making great catches out there.

Q: Did the wind play a factor?
A: No. It would be easier to tell you guys that, but no, it didn't. It was a lot windier this week when we were practicing than it was out there today.

Q: What about Carolina's blitz?
A: They did a good job. You know a lot of times you don't know who it is that's getting pressure on you. I mean, you look up and assume, but you're trying to get the ball downfield, and you're trying to look through those guys, so sometimes when the blitz comes, you see guys those guys, but even so. ... Sometimes when they blitz, there are other guys getting pressure. I think they did a good job. Obviously, the got some pressure on me. They're big, they're strong and they're fast.

Jon Jansen
Q: Did you feel the defense kept you in the game?
A: We were in this game because of our defense. We were very confident at that point, but it didn't work out.

Q: Do you feel you let the defense down by not scoring after turnovers?
A: Sure. When we don't score enough points, we always feel we didn't do our job. We didn't put points on the board enough to win.

Q: Can you talk about the second half?
A: We just adjusted to some of the things they were doing, and we were able to make some plays. We were able to get some momentum, and we really had some things going for us in the second half.

Q: What are your thoughts about the Panthers' defensive line?
A: They are a very good unit. What makes them a good unit is that they play together. You don't see Randy [Thomas] and I get beat on a twist very much, and they ran a twist on us and got us, and you've got to give credit to them.

Fred Smoot
Q: What happened when Stephen Davis got open on fourth down?
A: Man coverages. I don't know. I had my man. That's all I could focus on. He came free.

Q: Did you feel like you had a chance to win after creating some turnovers?
A: We felt like we had a step on them all day. But when it came down to it their players made the plays. And we didn't.

Q: How did Davis get so wide open?
A: I was wondering the same thing you were wondering. How did he get wide open like that? Once a play happens, you have to go to the next play, and that's where my focus was. They had four downs. We were trying to stop them.

Matt Bowen
Q: Did you think Stephen Davis broke the plane of the goal line?
A: I don't think he scored, but it's not my call. Whether he got in or not, we don't let him down there in the first place. We don't let them down there, we don't even have to talk about the play, so we can't hang the game on that one play.

Q: Do you feel you disrupted their offense?
A: I thought we did. I thought we played the run well. We caused about three or four turnovers. I thought it was a good defensive effort, but when it came down to it, our offense scored and gave us a chance to win, and we didn't hold up our end of the bargain.

Q: What is the mood in the locker room?
A: We'll be all right. These guys hang together. This is a good team. These guys trust each other. We'll come back next week. It doesn't matter. We're going down and playing Ricky Williams, so hey, we'll just keep hanging together and see what we can do.
