FIRST QUARTER
Redskins 5, Cowboys 0 The Redskins' offense failed to score on its opening drive, a 78-yard march that stalled when Cowboys linebacker Bradie James stuffed running back Clinton Portis on a fourth-down attempt from the Dallas 1-yard line. But the Redskins' defense salvaged some points on the next play when Lemar Marshall tackled Cowboys running back Julius Jones before he got out of the end zone. The safety gave Washington a 2-0 lead with 6 minutes 29 seconds left. A 27-yard play from quarterback Mark Brunell to wide receiver James Thrash set up place kicker Nick Novak's 28-yard field goal with 4:23 left in the quarter to push the Redskins' advantage to 5-0. SECOND QUARTER
Redskins 12, Cowboys 12 Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo hit wide receiver Terry Glenn as he came across the middle for a 10-yard touchdown pass with 12:55 left in the first half. Up 6-5, the Cowboys opted for a two-point conversion attempt. But cornerback Kenny Wright knocked away a Romo conversion pass intended for wide receiver Patrick Crayton. Mike Vanderjagt added a 33-yard field goal with 3:27 left. Washington reclaimed the lead three plays later when Clinton Portis turned the corner on a 38-yard touchdown run with 2:23 left to make it 12-9. Dallas tied the game at 12 just before halftime with a 30-yard Vanderjagt field goal with three seconds left. THIRD QUARTER
Cowboys 19, Redskins 12 Wide receiver Terrell Owens capped an eight-play, 75-yard drive with a four-yard touchdown catch from Tony Romo. Officials then called Owens for a taunting penalty after he laid down in the end zone to celebrate. Romo's 48-yard pass to wide receiver Patrick Crayton set up the touchdown to that put Dallas ahead, 19-12, with 10:17 left in the quarter. Washington punted twice in the quarter and failed to move the ball past the Dallas 47-yard line even after starting one of their its drives at the 50 thanks to a 25-yard punt return by Antwaan Randle El. The Redskins managed one first down in the quarter. FOURTH QUARTER
Redskins 22, Cowboys 19 Chris Cooley atoned for a drop earlier in the game, catching an 18-yard touchdown from Mark Brunell with 14:05 left to tie the score at 19. Brunell threw a perfect floater to Cooley, who put the ball away in the back corner of the end zone. Redskins place kicker Nick Novak missed a 49-yard field goal attempt wide right with 31 seconds left. But after Troy Vincent blocked Mike Vanderjagt's 35-yard attempt with six seconds left, Novak got another chance thanks to a 30-yard return by Sean Taylor and a face-mask penalty against Dallas's Kyle Kosier. The defensive penalty gave the Redskins one more play without no time on the clock. Novak hit from 47 yards, squeezing the ball just inside the right upright.
