UEFA Cup Parma Go Through Despite Losing to Zagreb

Thursday, November 9, 2000; 3:19 PM

ZAGREB, Nov 9 – Dynamo Zagreb beat a defensive Parma side 1-0 and dominated their UEFA cup tie on Thursday but the Italians went through to the third round 2-1 on aggregate.

Striker Tomo Sokota latched on to a pass in the area and tipped the ball over the falling Gianluigi Buffon in the 32nd minute.

Dinamo attacked for most of the match and Bosko Balaban shot just wide from the edge of the area in the 17th minute.

Buffon had to stretch to deny a close-range header from Sokota three minutes later and an explosive left-footed volley from Edin Mujcin was a fraction wide just before half time. Parma, strengthened by Argentine midfielder Matias Almeyda, created more chances in the second half but lost Luigi Santor for second bookable offence just before injury time.
