MILAN, Oct 26 – Inter Milan's problems continued as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Vitesse Arnhem in their UEFA Cup second round first leg match on Thursday.

Vitesse coach Ronald Koeman will be well pleased with a result that gives his team a real chance of pulling off an upset at the second leg in the Netherlands in a fortnight.

Turkish striker Hakan Sukur had the best chance for Inter in the sixth minute as he was put clear on goal but as he chose to try and round Vitesse keeper Edwin Zoetebier who grabbed the ball from his feet.

Two minutes later Vitesse's Ghanian striker Mathew Amoah turned sharply on the edge of the area and unleashed a left foot drive which whistled past the post.

Inter carved out a rare opening in the 21st minute but Chilean forward Ivan Zamorano blasted high and wide from a good position

The nearest either side came to a goal was in the 32nd minute when the dangerous Amoah forced a good save out of Inter keeper Sebastien Frey with a powerful strike from the edge of the area.

Although Vitesse enjoyed the better possession, the only real effort on goal of a poor second half, played in front of just 9,093 spectators, saw a close range Sukur shot smothered by Vitesse keeper Edwin Zoetebier.
