MADRID, Sept 26 – Real Madrid staged a sublime second-half comeback to beat Anderlecht 4-1 at the Bernabeu on Wednesday and make it maximum points from three Champions League group A matches.

Real fell behind to an Aruna Dindane strike on 33 minutes, as the Ivory Coast striker was given space to chip the ball over Iker Casillas from just inside the area.

Vicente del Bosque's side roared into life after the break, though, taking the lead within six minutes through goals from Albert Celades and Raul.

Raul added his second on 68 minutes, with Santiago Solari rounding off the scoring 11 minutes from time.

Anderlecht were given a chance to reduce the arrears deep in injury-time when Tarek El Said won a penalty after falling under challenge from Fernando Hierro.

Substitute Gilles De Bilde cracked his spot-kick against a post, though, to complete a highly satisfying night for the Spanish champions, who are now all but assured of their place in the second phase.

Real had the vast majority of the possession throughout the first half but only rarely looked like putting it to good use.

ANDERLECHT WARNING

Dindane gave them a warning of his potential when he was allowed a clear run on goal following a mistake from Roberto Carlos on 11 minutes.

The powerful striker, who was the outlet for Anderlecht's rare attacks all night, took the ball in his stride but his goalbound shot was kept out by the legs of the advancing Casillas.

Real appeared to be stung into action and a series of more incisive attacks forced Filip De Wilde into action.

The Belgian keeper did well to save a Luis Figo freekick on 14 minutes, then punched clear a Raul header and turned further shots from Figo and Santiago Solari round the post.

Raul missed the best chance of the half on 26 minutes. He took the ball round De Wilde after being put through on goal but then hesitated, and as he tried to avoid a second challenge from the keeper he squirted a poor shot wide.

Dindane's goal came when Anderlecht carved their way through an inert Real defence.

Alin Stoica supplied a simple ball into the striker's feet on the edge of the box. Dindane took one touch and chipped the ball over the Real keeper.

Real gave the ball away with disarming regularity for the remainder of the half before their marked improvement immediately after the break proved for too much for the Belgians.

PURPOSEFUL RUN

Albert Celades grabbed the equaliser on 49 minutes, bundling the ball in after Claude Makelele's purposeful run through the Anderlecht defence had been checked.

Raul got the second two minutes later, taking a Roberto Carlos through ball on his chest—with a little help from the covering defender—and hooking his shot past De Wilde.

The Spanish international striker made it 3-1 when he latched on to another through ball, this time from Pedro Munitis, and chipped the keeper.

Solari scored the fourth 11 minutes from time, the fragile Anderlecht backline crumbling once again in similar fashion.

The Argentine midfielder produced another deft chip from a defence-splitting pass from Celades, whose incisive performance as stand-in for the suspended Zinedine Zidane will have given Del Bosque plenty to think about.
