Stunned Spaniards on Brink After Draw
Spain, which was favored to win Group D, is on the brink of a
humiliating elimination after being held to a 0-0 tie by Paraguay on June 19. Although the Spaniards forced
Paraguay goalkeeper Jose
Luis Chilavert to make several
difficult saves, they could not
dent his net. Spain plays
Bulgaria on June 24, needing a victory or draw
and some help from Nigeria, which plays Paraguay. At right, South African referee Ian McLeod issues a yellow card to Spain's Sergi, one of four to be issued in the match.
