Friday, Pioline will face Alex Corretja — one of three Spaniards in the semifinals. In the other semifinal, No. 12 seed Carlos Moya (pictured), the highest seeded men's player remaining, will face countryman Felix Mantilla.

Hingis Wears Down Venus in Quarterfinals
Martina Hingis used her deft touch and court sense to wear down American Venus Williams, 6-3, 6-4 in the women's quarterfinals on Tuesday. Also eliminated was defending champion Iva Majoli, who was beaten by No. 2 seed Lindsay Davenport, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3.

In a battle of teenagers, No. 9 Iva Majoli (pictured) became the first Croatian to win a Grand Slam when she stunned top-seeded Martina Hingis, 6-4, 6-2, in the final of the French Open. Majoli, 19, ended 16-year-old Hingis's 40-match unbeaten streak, which spanned six tournaments.
