WASHINGTON (AP) — Scott Draper of Australia needed just 50 minutes to upset fifth-seeded Filip Dewulf of Belgium 6-3, 6-2, in a quarterfinal match at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic.

Despite wrapping up a two-hour doubles match Thursday at 11:16 p.m., Draper appeared fresh Friday in his afternoon match.

``I'd rather lose in the quarterfinals of singles and know I had given 200 percent in doubles, rather than give 80 percent in doubles and let my partner down,'' Draper said.

Drapper wasn't successful in the three-set doubles match Thursday, but opened Friday's match with an ace and never looked back.

Dewulf failed to get any break chances in the loss. Draper was especially successful when he got his first serve in, hitting nine aces and winning 25 of 29 first-serve points.

Drapper improved to 14-3 since winning his first tour title, a grasscourt event in June at the Queen's Club.
