The 1974 Maryland Terrapins may have been the best unit in school history and they didn't even make the NCAA tournament. Back in those days only the league champion advanced to the big dance and the Terps dropped a tough game to North Carolina State in the ACC tournament final. Led by three future NBA stars (John Lucas, Len Elmore and Tom McMillen), the talent-laden sqaud was never able to overcome the ACC tournament hurdle and appeared in only one NCAA tournament (1973 when N.C. State was on probation) despite winning 73 games in three seasons with Elmore and McMillen. Some call the 1974 team the best never to have made the tournament. Even though it suffered such a fate, the 1974 Terrapins could arguably be considered better than any other Maryland team.

Len Elmore
The current television analyst had an outstanding career at Maryland and was a great scorer and rebounder.

Center

Tom McMillen
One of the best players in school history, McMillen seldom had an off game.
