UDC stringed together some sensational seasons in the mid 1980s. Largely behind the exploits of All-Americans Earl Jones, who would go on to lead Division II in scoring in 1984 and get drafted by the L.A. Lakers in the first round that year, and Michael Britt; the Firehawks of the 1981-1982 season rolled through the sesason to a 25-2 record and won the school's lone national championship in men's basketball. The team was good enough to advance to the final the following season before bowing out to Wright State. With two legit All-Americans and a solid supporting cast, this team could present a challenge to anybody but would probably lack the depth necessary to seriously threaten a Division I team.
