With Ralph Sampson having graduated and moved on to the NBA, Olden Polynice, another future NBA player, took over inside the paint. This team was probably not as talented as the previous Virginia Final Four group but still came one basket away from advancing to the National Championship game. The Cavaiers were very close to knocking off Houston in 1984 but lost in overtime, 49-47. Rick Carlisle also would go on to an NBA career with the Boston Celtics and now coaches the Indiana Pacers.

Point Guard

Othell Wilson, 13.8 ppg
Possibly the best scorer on the team.

Guard

Rick Carlisle, 11.1 ppg
A heady player, Carlisle usually made the right decision and put himself in a position to make plays.

Guard/Forward

Kenton Edelin, 4.4 ppg
A solid role player.

Forward

Jim Miller, 10.8 ppg
Complimented a young and still developing Olden Polynice inside.

Center

Olden Polynice, 7.7 ppg
Still not fully mature as a basketball player at this point, Polynice nonetheless was a force in the paint.
