Museum Exhibitions Other museums are preparing exhibitions on American icons — from "Star Wars" artifacts and a Mathew Brady retrospective to African American sacred music to 200 years of Washington blueprints.
26-"Mathew Brady's Portraits: Images as History, Photography as Art," a retrospective on Brady's work and development of photography. The National Portrait Gallery show gathers 100 images of every form of his incredible output. Through Jan. 4, 1998.
10-"Planning Washington's Monumental Core: L'Enfant to Legacy," a look at the history of blueprints for Washington's public buildings and roadways, at the National Building Museum. Through June 30, 1998. 11-"Wade in the Water: African American Sacred Music Traditions." The sweet and piercing strains of gospel music will be traced from slavery to today's choir lofts and stages in this review. The National Museum of American History show is based on the Peabody Award-winning radio series. Through Dec. 7, 1997. 30-"Star Wars: The Magic of the Myth." A potential exhibition blockbuster for the National Air & Space Museum, the show features 200 props from director George Lucas's trilogy. Through October 1988.
13-"Blue Guitars," a salute to guitarmakers who broke the boundaries, at National Museum of American History. Through Oct. 1, 1998.
