Indianapolis Man Wins Oscar Contest By Matt Slovick WashingtonPost.com Staff Yes, Lauren Bacall didn't win. But the biggest surprise for me on Oscar night was that out of 3,290 entries in our Oscar Contest, no one picked all the winners in the eight major categories. However, 38 participants ended up with one wrong. And Michael Poulakis of Indianapolis won by tiebreaker. He correctly predicted that "The English Patient" would pick up nine Academy Awards. He picks up $100 in Blockbuster Bucks, which can be used in any Blockbuster Video store. Michael is a 25-year-old graduate student at the University of Indianapolis. He is studying toward a doctorate in clinical psychology. Two others guessed that "Patient" would win eight statues. Their tie was broken by earliest entry. Katie Szechenyi of Washington, D.C., wins $50 in Blockbuster Bucks, and Jennice Fuentes of Arlington, Va., who entered two days later, wins $25. Ten people were chosen in a random drawing to win WashingtonPost.com caps. Those winners are: Richard Perez-Pena of Delmar, N.Y.; Lev Podlazov of Reston, Va.; Alfio Arcidiacono of Rockville, Md.; Michelle Bell of Alexandria, Va.; Catharine Moseley of Atlanta; Laura Belmonte of Stillwater, Okla.; Donna Snowden of Upper Marlboro, Md.; Bruce Rennie of Omaha, Neb.; Jack Sugarman of Alexandria, Va.; and Ngoc Phan of Burke, Va. Our first Web Oscar Contest generated 3,290 entries from all 50 states, the District, Puerto Rico and 41 other countries on six continents. Thank you to all who participated.
