'Excess Baggage'

Scene from this movie As lonely rich girl Emily T. Hope, Alicia Silverstone locks herself into the trunk of a BMW, pretending to be kidnaped. But the ruse -- intended to secure the attention of her rich, icy father (Jack Thompson) -- goes awry when professional car thief Vincent (Benicio Del Toro) drives the car away. Emily and Vincent embark on what is meant to be an edgy, screwballish comedy of errors, with Emily’s dangerous, devoted "Uncle" Ray (Christopher Walken) in hot pursuit. Although Del Toro makes an appealing, scuzzy naif, he’s got to play second fiddle to a potboiler of a script, and Silverstone’s pudgy posturing. It’s not a pretty sight. Walken, who can be a wonderful prince of darkness in the right movie, is utterly wasted. This one’s for Silverstone fans only. -- Desson Howe
