Although lead actor Deon Richmond has some winning appeal, and although director David Raynr and screenwriter Gary Hardwick clearly have potential as comedy creators, this is another tired rerun of all those hip-hop high school movies about status and sex. Surely there are other subjects in the world. High school senior Greg Reed (Richmond) spends his time avoiding class and the issue of college applications until he falls in love with smart, gorgeous, college-bound classmate Cinny Hawkins (Maia Campbell). "Trippin'," punctuated by Greg's Walter Mitty-style fantasies (usually of the male-aggrandizing variety), takes a drearily predictable romantic course, including the use of deception to win over the girl. You could just perish waiting for this thing to resolve itself. There are some funny moments, however, particularly from Bill Henderson as Greg's dyspeptic Gramps. But really, what a waste of Raynr and Hardwick's potential.
