Your Papers, Please
By Rob Pegoraro
I'm a big fan of newspapers, and not just because one of them pays me. If you need to know what's going on in another town say, restaurant reviews or apartment listings the best source on the Web will often be the local paper. But since search engines can be astoundingly brain-dead when it comes to finding papers, I use the directory of newspapers at the American Journalism Review's NewsLink site http://www.newslink.org/news.html.
You can search for papers by name, city, state, frequency of publishing or type (business, alternative and so on). The coverage is impressive: I was shocked to find a link to something as obscure as the classified ads of the Hunterdon County Democrat, the local weekly of my bucolic New Jersey hometown.
