Eye Spy June 26, 1998
The TerraServer site http://www.terraserver.com puts near-spy-satellite-quality imagery only a few clicks away. This Microsoft-produced site collects data from U.S. Geological Survey aerial photos and the Russian Spin-2 satellite; photos from the latter include objects as small as 1.5 meters (about 1.6 yards), much sharper than other online satellite imagery. Few photos are newer than 1994, but updates to the image database are planned. More troubling, although you can search by place name, there's no search-by-address function and too much of this site was slow, halting and interrupted by "scripting error" warnings.
