    Bonds Have More Fun

    June 18, 1999

Financial advisors don't agree with each other any more than politicians do, but a common mantra is "diversification." That's a big word for a simple concept: not putting all your financial eggs into one basket. Since savings bonds are an easy vehicle for beginning investors, it's worth understanding what they offer. The United States Savings Bond Public Information Pages helps navigate Series EE/I/HH bonds, starting with a beginner's guide that answers frequently asked questions. Bond mavens can read about minimum yields, what to do if bonds are lost or stolen, tax deferral and bonds for children. The "Odds & Ends" page lists important facts, such as best times to buy or sell bonds, and explains why bonds issued within days of each other can pay vastly different rate.
