    Garden Variety

    September 4, 1998

Whether you tend a city windowbox, a suburban lawn and flowerbed, or rural foliage, the Gardening.com site http://www.gardening.com helps plan, design, research and tend garden empires of any size. Search by plant name or by attributes such as plant type, bloom season, flower color and sunlight – a simple search for "impatiens" turned up no less than nine illustrated matches here.

Under "problem solver," select "Plant Doctor" to diagnose and treat problems or browse "Pests and Diseases" in order to "know critters and ailments you're up against." A link-o-matic provides a Garden Site Directory – all the garden Web sites you could want, searchable by keyword, supplied list of topics or U.S. region. "Great Gardens" lists more than 40 choices, including two personal favorites: the New York Botanical Garden and the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, England.
